“Asiwaju” peaked at No. 1 on Nigeria’s Apple Music for 2 months

With incredible accomplishments and records, Nigerian singer Ruger undoubtedly ruled the entire 2022 Nigerian music industry.

Ranging from his meteoric rise with a superb range of artistry, dishing out top charting songs and projects, which started simply by signing a record deal with D’Prince’s “Jonzing world record company in 2021.

However, the beginning of the year was the sweet-voiced and melodic tune titled “Dior” Off his body of work; “The Second Wave” EP peaking at number 1 on the highly competitive Nigeria Apple Music Top Songs chart and iTunes respectively.

Dior is a blend of reggae, dancehall patois, and pidgin which infuse the modern and aggressive flavor of Afro-dancehall.

On 16 November 2022, Ruger returns with a new chest-thumping tune capsule, consisting of two songs titled ‘Red Flags’ & Asiwaju, which upon release trended on every social media platform.

Asiwaju peaked at number 1 on Nigeria’s Apple Music Top Songs chart and spent a record-breaking two months in the chart’s history.

Ruger has also swept some of the major awards, including the Best New Act in Africa at the 2022 prestigious Afrima Awards.
